I'm in Maine drawing and painting barns and boats and seascapes. And when its raining too hard to paint outdoors I'm working on a series of paintings of guns. On the one hand they are beautiful objects, painted with tenderness in watercolour, which is often synonymous with still lives. On the other hand they are dreadful and terrible things which have no place in my home. I've done three in the series so far. Each 8 x 20

Notes from Maine
Boothbay Harbour in the rain 2011
I have 8 of my recent graduates with me and its good to sit together around the huge farmhouse table every evening with our paintings and drawings to talk things through and work on new things.

Short film by Randy Vreeland, graduate of the American Academy of Art
Before and After
Over a period of some 5 or 6 weeks, maybe longer, I was documented working on an illustration from the Banthanti story. The film was the brain child of Randy Vreeland under the wing of Bob Drea, head of Photography at the school. I was only able to work on the piece sporadically between classes (hence the long timeframe) and the interview was conducted at the outset, before anything but the designwork was begun. I've never seen myself draw and paint before, so thats interesting to me, even though listening to me talk is a bit like nails on a chalkboard! So click on the link for a 7 minute demonstration of what I do, and thanks Randy for leading me through this.
