Woke early this morning, packed my bags, went with the family to the studio to pack my equipment and supplies, then drove 6 hours north to Door County, Wisconcin for the 5th annual Plein Air invitational week event thing. Which feels unnervingly like a competition/ "art as spectator sport" kind of thing at the moment. I must say the adrenaline has been coursing through my veins since I arrived late this afternoon. Or that might just be the shakes after a six hour drive on an empty stomach. Felt immeadiately welcome at the Peninsula School of Art, hosts of the week's events, although somewhat confused by the array of compulsory "Quick Paint" events and mandatory location paintings to be done over the next 5 days. After 2 cups of coffee and a granola bar it was the general consensus among the artists that I was sat with, that there was time to get a quick one in before sunset, so at 6.45 we left in a convoy of cars. The convoy pulled to the side of the road on a bluff overlooking endless fields and trees, and I sped on in search of something with some straight edges. And I found this.
Sunday. 1 hour evening painting. County road F and EE
Have a good time MBK! Can't wait to see what you paint and hear what you lean.
ReplyDeleteAs usual, I love it. But I especially love your choice of palette in this piece. I like how that blue color is isolated on the roof, not sure if I've seen that blue in your other pieces... It's nice.
ReplyDeleteD. Its my cerrulean blue with some umber dropped in and just the tiniest tiniest hint of rose madder to heat it up a bit.
ReplyDeleteLucas, Its only day two and I'm learning that These people are mustard keen. I've done three so far but there's people among the 40 who have 5 and 6 under their belt and they went out at sunset to do another today when I was ready for a shower and a lie down.
Brilliant Painting!!! Art has always been about quality not quantity. What a privilege to watch you paint. I think that watercolors are in fact more tiring. Careful thinking as only so many mistakes can be rectified.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Karen. I enjoyed having your company this morning as I painted at the Three Springs. I'm definitely painting in a tighter way here. And slower but I'm excited about the way that the pieces are turning out here.
